To achieve sustainability we need to have Zero impact, Zero incidents and a beneficial effect on the world. This journey towards sustainability will involve measuring, monitoring and assessing our operations to achieve continual improvement with yearly targets, whilst meeting our legislative requirements, objectives and targets. The following commitments have been adopted by McSweeney’s to achieve the highest level of sustainability and environmental benefit.

Electricity usage in Quarry

Mcsweeney Bros promote and utilise green energy electricity suppliers.
Prior to the end of each contract suppliers are checked on sustainability, use of greener generated power supplies and price.

Mcsweeney Bros current supplier is providing supply of 90% renewable energy.

Mcsweeney Bros runs a fleet of modern excavators, loading shovels and mobile crushing plant all of which are fitted with Tier 4 engines.

Mcsweeney Bros Truck fleet

Mcsweeney Bros runs a fleet of modern trucks all of which are fitted with Tier 4 engines. The Tier 4 standards require that emissions of PM and NOx be further reduced by about 90%. These emission reductions have been achieved through the use of advanced exhaust gas aftertreatment technologies, with most Tier 4 engine families using urea-SCR catalysts
for NOx control.

Monitoring

Continual ongoing water testing is carried out both in house and by external independent specialist contractors.

Visual test details: inspection description & results:

The test was in accordance with the procedure recommended in BS8007: 1987 and consisted of the following: Bund was filled with clean water for a liqu id stabilisation period of 24 hours from 17.05.2021 to 18.05.2021. The level of the liquid surface was recorded following the 24-hr period.

At the end of the test period the drop was less than 2mm.

Dust

Continual ongoing dust monitoring and testing is carried out both in house and by external independent specialist contractors.

Noise and Vibration

Continual ongoing noise and vibration testing is carried out both in house and by external independent specialist contractors.

Hydrocarbon interceptors

Mcsweeney Bros have Hydrocarbon interceptors installed at all critical drainage and collection points, testing is carried out both in house and by external independent specialist contractors.

Test results for all of the above are available on request.
